modern rugby

modern rugby has changed in a number of ways with the addition of the tmo(television match official)which has the power to stop a game and view all the available camera angles to view an incident whether it be good or bad e.g.. a try or a fight.it has also changed with the addition of "sausages "which is for second rows which help the lifter in the lineouts to lift the jumper or the guy going up. Modern stadiums has allowed the fans to get even closer to the game and with in literal touching distance of the players. New kicking tees have changed how converters of try's and penalties to change their kicking style, the popular technique would be where the ball is tilted towards the goal that the converter is kicking towards.the revolution of moving from sandbased and clay based pitches has change with the addition of the new fourth generation pitches which is deemed to be half astro turf or all weather pitch and have grass which has been very popular. the new ref cam which has been very controversial has also been an interesting addition as you get a real feel of what it is like as a player come scrum time. The classic crouch, touch, pause, engage! Has now been changed to crouch, bind, set! The new competition the champions cup is also very exciting for all European clubs taking part. Rugby is now a growing sport in America as new Zealand recently played an exhibition match against the usa eagles, new Zealand running out easy winners. England is set the host the world cup in a years time from now which is a very exciting time and possibly the most anticipated rugby world cup ever with Julian savea ready to play in his first world cup and has been described as the next if not better than Jonah lomu.

the traditional 15 a side rugby union game held its first world cup in 1987 ,164 years after the birth of rugby, 33 years after rugby league had its first world cup which is interesting as you would think the older rugby game would be the most popular or have the biggest fan base but this is not the case as the rugby union world cup is the third most watched sporting event. New Zealand and Australia agreed to co host the tournament. New Zealand won the world cup for the first time beating France 29-9 in the final.at this time south Africa decided to boycott the tournament due to apartheid. The Ussr were to be invited but they refused the invitation on political grounds, allegedly due to the continued IRFB membership of South Africa.

geography of rugby

it is believed that the sport of rugby first came about when william webb ellis whilst playing football decide to pick the football up and run with it in his arms.originating the unique feature of rugby.webb ellis was rewarded with the world cup being named after him as the 'william webb ellis cup'.

there were many games similar to rugby in the 5th to 16th century the features of these such games were a pigs bladder would be inflated and one team would have to get the ball from point A to point B.

like so many sports that originated in victorian england it was competition the sense of fair play and then of course the need for rules and laws which allowed the game of rugby to expand internationally
